Using Glass to Sell a House

In today’s building climate it is important to be inventive to set your house apart from the competition. One of the easiest and most attractive ways to do that is by incorporating decorative glass. Glass adds greatly to the ambience of a house and makes it stand apart. The choice of decorative glass works with moderate to high end custom homes. Decorative glass has been used for centuries to add beauty and light. It is not “trendy” so it doesn’t go in or out of style. There are so many opportunities in today’s homes to add a unique flavor and there are more applications than ever before. Custom designed architectural glass panels work beautifully for shower walls. They can be installed without frames and add to the grand feel that people look for in bathrooms today. Leaded glass for bathroom windows is a classic. Stained glass can add a punch of color or drama to a bathroom. But color really isn’t necessary because there are so many different clear textures to choose from. A combination of textures and bevels is timeless and elegant. The use of glass brightens up a bathroom in a way that nothing else can. All other privacy alternatives cover up large windows and make for dark rooms. There are many ways to use a little color. It is not uncommon to have inset borders pick up a tile or granite color. A touch of black works well as an accent without adding a specific color. There are also many subtle colors to choose from. Rich, creamy taupe's are popular tile colors and the use of subtle colors can make the whole room blend seamlessly together. |
Today’s homes tend to have beautiful impressive front entries. Leaded glass can make the entry light and bright. Privacy is also a big concern. Again glass solves the problem. There are many different textured glasses to choose from. The range from clear to obscure textures means that every entry can have its own personal style. Today’s large iron doors also require glass. Oiled bronze and wrought iron work well with Flemish glass. This affords a moderate amount of privacy and provides a rich, old world look. Beveled and leaded glass has always been desirable. The trend in leaded glass is away from brass accenting and toward a darker antique looking lead. This is a fine match to today’s oiled bronze fixtures. As everyone knows, the kitchen is the heart of any home. Cabinet glass can add interest and break up the look of a row of cabinet door panels. Cabinet glass can be as soft and traditional as seeded glass or compliment any style by adding leaded or beveled glass. There are also unusual ways to incorporate the beauty of stained glass there as well. Stove hoods can be fitted with back lit panels that can add color and warmth. Some custom homes have installed light boxes over counter areas and created focal points of art. There are also contemporary or whimsical possibilities in media rooms and wet bars. Many homes today also have interior transoms or pass through between rooms. This is another example of creating a focal point that makes a house stand out. Glass is something everyone loves. Use it to your advantage and make your house the unique one that sells.
